Teaching with Yellowdig
Instructor Guide
About
Yellowdig is a social learning platform which combines traditional discussion board offerings with game-based learning and social media tools. Designed for higher education, Yellowdig easily integrates with Canvas and can be used in combination with or in place of the Canvas discussion board.
Why Use This Tool?
- Fosters Peer-Peer Collaboration: Students engage with the content through social learning by interacting with others using in-person discussions, real-time questions, and peer-to-peer and student-instructor interactions. It also increases a sense of belonging in the academic community.
- Smooth Integration into Canvas: Once set up, Yellowdig automatically updates in the Canvas gradebook, making grade passback a seamless process. It also only requires one assignment in the gradebook.
- Various Forms of Engagement Opportunities: Yellowdig incorporates reactions and emojis to provide low-stakes interactions among peers. Students can respond with text, audio, or video responses as well.
- Interaction Data Collection & Analytics: Yellowdig allows instructors to track student interactions, view how students are interacting with their peers, and target specific student needs through up-to-date community information.
